Selecting Maternity Clothes

By Gardelee Benandanio

When a woman is about to become a mom, naturally she will find that her belly begins to expand, the fashion conscious mom will start to become conscious of what she wears. In fact for a first time mom who is fashion conscious the thought of looking less than well dressed and looking a bit frumpy instead is not a pleasant feeling. Depending on what you have seen or heard about maternity fashion, you may be approaching the whole notion of dressing your expanding waistline with some dread. For the mom on a budget it gets even tougher as maternity wear is known to be costly.

You should ask a sister or close friend who is a size bigger than you or who has also had a baby if they would give you some of their maternity clothes, these clothes will mostly be relatively new as they are worn for such a short space of time. You never know you might get some nice tops and dresses out of it.

Another option is to rummage your spouse's closet, you will usually find some nice roomy t-shirts, for the latter part of your second trimester and these will always look nice when you wear a pair of leggings or tights with them. These tips will save you a lot of money especially if money is an issue, so instead of spending a fortune on maternity wear, you can actually save up to buy cute items for your little baby boy or girl.

Let's take a look at the what you should shop for and how you should shop when you are finally ready to shop. The first thing you you should do is not divert too far from your own personal sense of style, if you have a preference for pants over dresses or skirts over pants stick to that, and if like certain colors go with that, don't get caught up in trying to look different and choose clothing style that don't match your personality.

Here is another option, if you are not plus sizes, you might want to consider shopping at one of these stores as you will usually find clothes that will be flattering for you going into the latter part of your second trimester and toward the beginning of the first. Eventually though you will have to graduate to actual maternity wear, but do not buy too much as you will only be wearing these for a few months.

You will have to ditch your high heels sooner rather than later, so you should invest in cute and comfortable flats, toward the end of your pregnancy some of shoes may actually be too tight and you will have to go up a size as feet have a tendency to swell in pregnancy.
